So I know a tiny bit about the H1N1. What are the death rates compared to "normal" seasonal flu? I haven't got the vaccine and talked to my ex to let her know I didn't want my daughter to get it yet. If this thing is nearly the same and not statistically more deadly then I certainly don't want to get the vaccine.

Australia reports that the H1N1 swine flu is milder with less fatality than typical seasonal flu and seems to add resistance to contracting typical seasonal flu.

http://www.examiner.com/x-18331-Natu...tistics-update take the scare factor into consideration.

While I believe that once again the swine flu shots are showing sings of inducing Guillain-Barré Syndrome

There are two variations. One is a live virus nasal the other is a dead injection.

From my understanding, H1N1 presents worse in people in their 20's and 30's and especially worse in obese people.

I have a cousin who has been in ICU for a week now

Only thing relevant I hit so far. Don't recall where I heard about the possibility first.

My 6yr old step-daughter has it. My wife is pregnant, and I also have a 2yr old step-son.

My 6yr old barely has a temperature. With Motrin/Tylenol her temp has been around 99F.

She got it from her brother, who she was around all weekend. He was tested positive for H1N1 and is very sick still.

Have you been to the hospital?
My cousin probably isn't going to make it.
His kidneys have failed and they can't put him on dialysis (failed 4 takes) and the recent attempt made his heart crash. So now he's on insulin also.

From my understanding, it all starts with pneumonia so be vigilant.

What other conditions did your cousin have?

Or anything else that might explain such a "bad case" of flu?

So... One in a million, or global pandemic. Hmmm... seems like a tough decision.

He was feeling generally ill for about 4 days. He went to bed early and then the next morning his wife wasn't able to wake him up. From what I understand he was just nonresponsive or just out of it.
They took him to the hospital. Presently he's the only person in the ICU due to swine flu. (This is the Denver area)
They discovered that he had pneumonia, which they have been trying to treat. However, he's had a fever of 104 for over 2 weeks now and they can't bring it down. He's not fully conscious due to all the procedures.
Last Thursday his kidneys failed.
They tried to put him in dialysis but that caused his fever to spike higher.
Yesterday they tried for the fourth time to put him on dialysis and his heart crashed.
Due to the failures of the dialysis and (I believe the temperature) his blood sugar levels are crazy so they have him on IV insulin as well.

I honestly don't expect him to make it, but I'm being as supportive as I can be.
Temperatures for extended periods of time may cause brain damage.
If he survives and all he has is kidney failure I think he'll be very fortunate. He's 27, so he should be top-of-the-list for transplants and most people can live with weakened kidneys.
However, he's pretty overweight, I suspect 375-400 poinds.

Ok, so very overweight and pneumonia. Those are factors that prolly explains the serious condition. Thank you.

Fortunately, it has barely affected her. Her temp got up to 101F, but that's it. We have had to force her to sit/lay on the couch all week, so she isn't feeling too bad. I think we caught it early enough so that it didn't get bad.

This morning was the first morning since Sunday that she didn't have a temp, so she will be going back to school on Monday. None of the rest of us are showing any symptoms so far, so we might be in the clear.

You have far greater chances of being hit by a car. Don't go outside!
