"It's a manumatic" - no its not

manumatic is a combination of two words. manual, and automatic. its an AUTOMATIC MANUAL GEARBOX. the gearbox does everything for you.

Yes, harp on this some more. it has no clutch pedal, therefore, not a manual.

Quote:
"You can't skip gears" - yes you can
Its not really skipping gears, you're just telling the computer to pop down one more. I'll give you this one though.

"There is no RPM matching" - yes there is
I dont think that was ever in contention.

A "manumatic" is an auto with manual shift mode. This is not it.

Both systems know what gear you're going for. If they didn't, there wouldn't be any RPM adjustment.. Also both use synchros b/c both are a normal manual transmission.

You're also not intelligent enough to realize that there is a difference between a sequential motorsport gearbox and a manual transmission.

This was before he realized it's the same manual trans as the regular cars, because there's not an ounce of sense in that post.

BMW.

Bah.
Last track project car thread I was reading, some guy took out 26 pounds of superfluous wires that did not inhibit function of his E36 M3. I'm curious how many sensors I could throw out the window..
Fucking sensors will be the death of me.

That manual gearbox that is the same is only part of the system. It's covered in solenoids, hydraulic lines, and all sorts of other stuff to shift it for you. Thus, not a regular manual with three pedals and a stick.

The rev matching is triggered differently in the Nissan. People are jumping down your throat because you insinuate that it is the same.

Nissan has sensors in the shifter. The SMG has sensors in the shifter. Sensor input tells ECU to adjust RPM in both cases, using the TB servo. The clutch/shift solenoids have nothing to do with engine speed.

Nissan has a sensor in the shifter for each selection (1,2,3,4,5,6,R), and BMW counts clicks to know what gear you want from two sensors (+ and -). Then correct RPM is calculated and adjusted. How is that different?

The SMG has no mechanical linkage between the shifter and the trans. There's no "sensor" on the shifter, the shifter is a sensor. You're asking the computer "would you pretty please shift for me". If the germanic overlords in the ECU say so, then it might happen, if the system doesn't get confused and accidentally select some other gear (which apparently it's known for doing).

That's a much more deterministic system than the Nissan, in addition to being much less reliable and more expensive (got an issue? swap gearboxes, at a cost of $7k per box).

Nissan filled the gap between a fully robotic manual and a manual manual. This is a partially assisted version. Might be very nice, I'll have to try it some day. Launch control is a little annoying, so this is a good compromise of features and it removes the need to heel-toe. So does a full blown DSG though.

Anyway admit that you think this is a shitty idea deep inside because you hate everything modern. Even on Nissans. Otherwise you'd fix the ABS on the red one. Or fix it period, but you can't figure out how to put a carburetor on it.

I bought all the materials for the paint booth yesterday (1" PVC covered in 8 mil plastic, with provisions for an exhaust fan w/a furnace filter).

I'm waiting on a list of materials from my friend for the rest of it (I'm sure I need sand paper of varying grits, sanding blocks, some kind of filler, plus a hammer and dolly set, and of course, the actual paint and clear coat). The only obstacle is that he and his GF just popped out a little cuntmuppet, but I've got a number of other things to bother him about as well.

The red one is going back together, and soon. It needs to be back on the road for the Z nationals in Phoenix in September.
