More chrysler repair... Intrepid

This time it went into limp mode on the road - starts in 2nd, stays in 2nd... Codes show 0700 which is a TCM code. Speedo is out too

After a quick google sounds like it's the tranny output sensor, which is causing the tranny limp mode.

Does this sound about right? Should i do both input and output for good measure or no?

Ps. anyone looking for an intrepid? Witness?? This thing has no rust and comes free with dog hair.

The sensors are cheap enough, you might as well try changing them first.

Depending upon the year, it could actually be the solenoid pack or valve body. You should be getting a P1776 code if it's one of these, but it's not 100%.

What year is the Intrepid, and what engine? 2002 and newer has no TCM... it's a PCM. P0700 means transmission output sensor, or even failed transmission.

When my tranny went on the 2004 Intrepid, it went into limp mode (which is what your car is doing) and wouldn't come out of 2nd. Does it have AutoStick? You should be able to use it to force it into 3rd or 4th if you MUST drive it.

0700 means there's codes in the transmission iirc, so it could be anything.

The speedo going out at the same time makes me think it's definitely a sensor. Although in my friend's caravan we replaced both sensors and found out the solenoid pack is dead. His speedo and everything was working though but same code, 0700.

There's another code but it's the ECU reset one that's all.

lol no the intrepid is not mine, thankfully. I don't really like that car - it's gigantic and kind of ugly. That v6 is ok, I can extrapolate that the 3.5 is fairly punchy and this 2.7 has lasted 170k so far with above average maintenance.

Repaired - fixed it today. The sensor had a glob of oily metal stuck to it. I'm willing to bet I coould have put it back in after a wipe but we bought the new one so in it went. Car runs great, shifts like a champ.

Didn't clean the input one, Im sure that is equally coated with metal. Both are a pain in the an0s to get at so ill do it later. It's a FWD car with a normally mounted engine, Audi style. You're under there between exhaust and frame and other shit. Took a long 1 inch socket and a lot of flexibility but wasn't too bad.

Dude, 170K on a 2.7? Do the water pump and switch to synthetic oil. That motor is notorious for sludging. I was on the Intrepid forums for years; I have yet to hear about a 2.7 going as far as yours without developing a knock.

Yea it's pretty weird. Hangs for miles over the front axle. The whole car is very long, same thing in the rear too.

If you are having weird shifting issues and rather random tranny codes, in most cases, it is a problem with the fluid going bad or someone put the wrong type of fluid into the tranny on the last service. You can only use ATF+3 or +4 in that tranny. You CANNOT use Dextron/Mercon.
