I'm actually doing that same swap for another guy in the Z club. Except, instead of going with a reasonable stand alone EMS, the guy is adapting the EMS from a late Z31 turbo to the wiring harness for the L28 turbo. Which would be fine, except that I have to adapt the L28 turbo harness to the 240Z (the L28ET only ever came in the 280ZX), and then wrap up the additional sensor lines (MAF, CAS, temperature sensors, etc.) in the new harness.

Most Z guys will look at anything over $20 and say "nah, I can do it cheaper with XYZ".

Sounds like a ton of work man. Good luck

It was supercharged before I owned it, and went an extra 1000 rpm over stock so not bad for 142k! It still has the boost guage fwiw - ill put a vacuum gauge there soon.

Ps. iron block and aluminum head = change coolant often or this happens

You got the head off, we deserve more engine pictures!

The line is carbon that didnt come off with the motor steam cleaning itself, there's like a ledge thing. Certainly hope it isn't a crack loI.. don't know why it looks weird like that - an optical illusion? Here's a clear shot of an s52 combustion chamber (hopefully mine will look like that after it's done)

Talked to him today the head is off to the machine shop. I'll see about some pics after it's back. Getting a 3 angle valve job, new seals and probably reusing everything else including the lifters. The head doesn't have to come off for those to be replaced so I figured I'd save some cash - they're not cheap.

ps.

I never got to that or similar voice (in my head)... Probably would've come off better had I done so.

You are at least swapping valve springs, right? I mean, the labor isn't going to be any different, since they've got to disassemble the head to do the valve job.

It'd be silly not to, given the labor charges for a head R&R.

It sounded like yes.. I'm going there on monday to annoy him while he puts the head back on. The only way he'd use the old ones is if they measured perfectly or something. Like I said I trust this guy completely.

He hooks it up on the labor too
