Okay went there today - they got the head back from the machine shop around 1pm, then I distracted them for a while and it should be done by Wednesday.

The head came out perfect. It looks great. I snapped a few pics here and there.

The bores look great - the crosshatching is all there. The cam wear is perfect. Now it should have like-new compression and of course no misfire on #2 cylinder from all the coolant getting in.

I'm surprised he didn't fill that corrosion up with some new aluminum. Must be some kind of kraut unobtanium alloy that you can't TIG or something.

Yeah not sure why they milled it in the end. It was a minute amount that was removed, so I won't need a thicker HG or anything. Electrolysis loves kraut metals apparently, nom nom nom... super important to keep fresh 50/50 of distilled water in there Im finding out. Like every e36 has erosion around the thermostat housing - nobody ever takes the coolant thing seriously.

Old springs measured fine; new head bolts, valve seats and seals, new gaskets and that's about it.
