Going to do LED tails, anyone care to recommend some?

So obv E36 M3

The contacts in my left one are kinda going to shit, I get that warning that the bulb is out on occasion. I was thinking about some LED tails, they come on faster so there's technically a safety aspect to it when it comes to the other driver and their reaction time... plus maybe they will look okay, use less juice too and last much longer than bulbs, which ive replaced a couple times since owning this thing.

thoughts? we do have a couple e36 guys around....

Here is both on the same car:

Ill be honest it's not that great - I wouldn't bother if the OEm ones were 100%

Then there's some really whacky shit I normally wouldn't consider:

Can you even get OEM tail lights anymore, or just through aftermarket (like Genera etc.)?

The LED ones don't look too bad, but unless there's some high end manufacturer making them, they are probably cheap Chinese shit...

I wouldn't, primarily because the reliability benefits you seek will be lost in the Chinese build-quality and materials. Aftermarket implementations of LED's are almost-always terrible as they use generic components that are poorly integrated into the original vehicles design.

I'm getting the same error on my E92... when I have some time I plan to disassemble them and clean the contacts for each bulb/connector.

The pic of the ones off the car are better than the Lite Brite tails..

In any case I hate LED tails because they blind the fuck out of me at dark intersections.

This is why I'm sort of nervous, but remember the ipad comes from China too and it's still one of the best tablets. There's got to be something that isn't shit - going to read some reviews today.

Yep exactly like that, something from a good company with decent design, don't care where it's assembled too much

dis n2b either

Apparently it's not unheard of for cheap ones to catch fire

BMW used some sort of ultra cheap aluminum for the contacts, it may be hard for me to fix without soldering to the actual bulb every time it goes out...

here's another:

For some people the fix is easy - you just make a new ground to the whole enchilada:

If that works, guess i don't have to do shit. The lights are actually in very good shape, no fade or cracks, always indoor kept...

Guy claims this works - except it doesn't rectify the burned out contact, just prevents it from happening again:

Quote:
"Turned on the running lights and turn light and blocked the brake pedal.

Everything was working this morning, but I still measured 2.5 volts between the ground trace in the tail light and chassis ground, meaning that I had a poor ground connection and the bulbs were working with only 10 volts.

I peeled back the insulation on the brown ground wire, and measured zero volts between the wire and ground. This meant that the brown wire was well grounded, but was not well connected to the tail light.

The astute observer will note that I turned off the lights before snapping the photos, else the photos would not have turned out well.

Since I had read that cleaning the plug was only a temporary fix to a design problem, I soldered in a second ground connection between the brown wire and the ground trace in the tail light (see photos)."

I had Spyder branded LED tails on the G8 and they were definitely nice units even though they were chinese. The only thing I don't like about the ones in your pics is that the rows are tilted a bit, yet not tilted to match the trunk lid line so it looks all off-angle to me.
