Talk to me about UPSs

I need a 1u UPS to power some network gear and a pedestal UPS unit to power one server. What should I look at? I dont think I need to spring for APC but dont know much about cyberpower or tripp lite.

Get a refurb APC Smart-UPS. I've had good luck with the units I've bought from UPSforLESS and refurbups. Just stick to the older models (SAU___) without LCD's and what not. I've read that some of the newer ones have fans that run all the time.

Are the refurb units new or used batteries?

Can't go wrong with APC brand.

I bought a "geek squad" version off my brother, its APC re-brand.

The reason I ask was last year techforless or some very similar name had UPSs listed for great prices as refurbished but they were original batteries. Obviously not exactly what I was looking for.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Cyberpower Systems was owned by APC. But googling couldn't verify that claim. I've installed smaller brick like Cyberpower Systems UPS units and they were okay. For awhile, their Windows monitoring software was atrocious. It had some really bad memory leak that eventually would use all of the available memory in the system. Only way to fix it was to restart. But I think they finally fixed that issue in newer versions of their software.

I haven't tried out their business rackmount models yet. I've switched from APC to Eaton as I have gotten tired of APC units dying on my clients, and then APC giving me a hard time about replacing the units under warranty.
