i don't think humans are all that special in relation to other animals, aside from the fact that we now have the capabilities to fuck up the entire system if we don't tread carefully enough. sure we've evolved into highly intelligent beings (that could be argued) but we're still just a part of the ecosystem, and when we die we simply get recycled back into the earth. humans have invented things like religion because they feel the need to have a higher purpose, and are scared to think that there may not actually be one. oh my gods!

okay that was just my cursory response, so don't take it too serious.

ah yes, are we cosmic mistakes or designed for higher purpose? It would be nice if the ultimate question was the big one on our minds, but in today's society we are too busy deciding between the mountain blend or the dark roast. With that in mind, it seems we've evolved the question into a purpose, and that purpose is to consume.

To enjoy yourself sure. But you must set goals for yourself. Short term epicurean pleasure will leave you empty and unhappy later in life.

There is only "now"
when you invent things like "future" and "past" it is out of the desire to form your "self" then yes.. you get things like the desire to create happiness in the future, etc. When you accept that only "now" is reality then you suddenly lose the majority of what creates the self... cant have that now can we?

the point of life is love. that means different things for different people at different times, but it as at the base of everything.

happiness.. however you want to define it... is everyone's answer for the point of life.

I ask this: what is the point of that? Everyone just sitting around trying to be happy all the time? WTF does that accomplish? Seems pretty self centered and doesn't accomplish anything.

it's not happiness, my friend. it's love. two very distinct things. widening the circle of love often causes personal anguish and pain, however it also brings great contentment and satisfaction.

its happiness.
it makes people feel good. that is the definition of happiness

either way, it still gives no additional purpose to life
