How to: Field Strip a Ruger 10/22
Since nobody has done this yet and its been requested a few times, here you go. the subject. Ruger 10/22 Stainless/Synthetic ![]() Pull the mag and the lock ![]() Undo this screw and the band strap around the barrel ![]() push the safety half way in and the whole assembly pops right out the top ![]() pop the two smaller pins and one larger pin (big one falls right out) out of the receiver ![]() ![]() Pull the cocking mechanism back and lift the front of the slide up and just pull it out. ![]() ![]() ![]() Use your allen wrench to undo the two bolts that hold the barrel in ![]()

with the two screws out you can now pull the barrel out and you're left with an empty receiver
![]() ![]() ![]() Fairly simple break down, now just clean it and put it all back in order. You can chose to wet sand any of the slide or contact parts if you wish to polish them up. I did and its much more smooth. I just left the bullet contact points alone though. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice I own the 40th year addition of the Ruger 10/22. With the cherry stock thank you now I can fully clean and maintain my gun the proper way to insure it's long life with me.

I have always wondered how some people could disassemble the Birettas so quickly, know I know it is pretty simple and not many steps.

COORS LIGHTSPEED: ENGAGED
|
Check the mag/chamber to verify it's not loaded. Flip lever on reciever cover up and pull out (might take some wiggling). If you do this with the bolt locked back, the spring will pop the reciever cover off without warning. Note: you may need to rotate the lever again to fully release the receiver cover. Reciever cover and spring Pull the bolt & bolt carrier out by pulling back. They may separate...no biggie. Bolt & bolt carrier Move this lever behind the gas chamber 45 degrees (aprox) clockwise. It's really hard to move by hand, so I use the flat end of a ball point pen so it doesn't scratch the metal. Lever at 45 degrees or so...grab the gas chamber and pull out. Tilt at an angle and the gas piston will drop right out. Place a finger in front of the now exposed hole and continue rotating lever until the operating rod comes out. Note: it is under spring pressure. If you don't limit it's movement it can fly across the room.

COORS LIGHTSPEED: ENGAGED
|
My SKS already has an aftermarket stock with an additional pistol grip. To remove the pistol grip, open the trap door on the bottom of the grip and remove the large bolt inside which secures it to the stock.
Pistol grip removed: To remove the trigger group first engage the safety by moving the lever to the indicated position. Note: failure to engage the safety can cause damage to the trigger group. Now take a screwdriver or the gas piston in a pinch and press on the indented button just behind the trigger. The trigger group will unlock and can now be rotated upwards and then lifted away. You can now separate the barreled receiver from the stock.Your SKS is now completely disassembled. And now I will just reassemble the gun to pass the time while the pics upload...
