The weird part is I mostly miss the stick when I'm driving around casually and the trans does something I didn't expect or wouldn't do myself. When I drive it fast the thing is so fast that I'm actually pretty happy with the paddles, and most of the time I am in manual mode and deciding what gear we should be in anyway. There still some software bugs that need to be worked out. sometimes it short shifts first even when in manual mode. it is sometimes clunky and seems confused about when to engage first gear at low speeds. my biggest complaint is sometimes when the thing is in auto mode and I try to take a turn (usually left) and I hit the gas and nothing happens. I mean nothing. the trans doesn't downshift, then engine doesn't rev, it's like the car stalled for a second and as this usually happens when I'm making a left that means I am sitting in a car rolling with no power into the path of oncoming traffic. in that moment if feels like the shitty old audi tiptronic transmissions that used to do the same thing but around pretty much every turn. so... it's neat and fun in some regards but annoying and stupid in others. I'm still kind of on the fence about it but I plan to upgrade the software and try and make the best of it for a while. Also, I'm still learning to work with the DSG. I have over 20 years with manuals and only a couple months with the DSG. I'm looking at doing a stage 2 DSG tune in the near future: http://www.hpamotorsport.com/dsg-stages.htm I can't believe audi didn't think of some of the stuff in there. Disabling the kickdown throttle switch in manual mode seems to be the most glaring. I already fixed the problem of the car not telling you what gear you are in by recoding the factory software with vag-com. That seems like another simple thing that was overlooked by audi. People coming from a manual trans like to know what gear they are in but by default the car will only tell you what gear you are in in manual mode. anything else you'd like to know? I feel like I'm rambling. I took the porsche out the other day and it did sort of feel really good to be rowing a proper manual again. ![]()
