'U.S backed Sunday's Turkish air raids on Iraq'

Bit of a sticky wicky wot?

" Turkey's top general, Yasar Buyukanit, said the US opened northern Iraqi airspace for the operation. "

"The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, told the BBC that his government had told the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad that the air strikes were "unacceptable".

"The Turkish media said up to 50 planes were used.

Iraqi officials said the bombs hit 10 villages, leaving one woman dead, while the PKK (Kurd's) reported seven deaths."

"General Buyukanit said the US "gave intelligence" that aided the operation.

"But what is more important is that the United States last night opened northern Iraqi airspace to us. By doing that, the United States approved the operation," he said."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7147271.stm

Question: How will Iraq handle this ?

Think they will allow Iran to protect the Kurds?

"The attack came a month after the United States promised to share intelligence with Turkey to help combat the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Turkey's military chief, Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, said U.S. intelligence was used.

"America gave intelligence," Kanal D television quoted Buyukanit as saying. "But more importantly, America last night opened (the Iraqi) airspace to us. By opening the airspace, America gave its approval to this operation," he said.

"Even if it's winter, even if there's snow, even if they live in caves, we'll find them and hit them," he added, according to the report. "These operations will continue all the time."

Exactly.

And it's quite humorous how some idiots here are so ignorant about the PKK while trying to blame it on the US.

Iran won't jump in. They'll start bitching and yelling but I can bet this will stay between Turkey and Iraq. I doubt Turkey even acknowledges Iraq as a country in its own right anyway, which'll probably lead to more problems.

This won't accomplish anything besides making the Turks dick feel bigger. The PKK is mostly a result of the Turks oppressive "Turkization" policies. Military operations against the PKK aren't going to result in any progress for Turkey unless it is accompanied by political compromise with the Kurdish population within their own nation. As it is military operations against the PKK are probably just going to increase support for the PKK and cause further radicalization.

They'll sit back and take it because there's not anything they can do. I imagine most Kurds are rather pissed off about Turkey flying in and bombing "PKK Targets" but they have 0 military or political clout. If the US says it's ok for Turkey to attack PKK targets then Iraq and Kurdistans only recourse is to complain to the US or international community.

Why would the Iranians want to protect the Kurds? Kurdish guerrillas are as much a threat to Iran as they are to Turkey. They'd be quite happy with any nationalist movements getting crushed given the history of their own Kurdish populations. Syria, Iran, Turkey, and (previously) Iraq have always taken the line of oppressing Kurds to maintain their hold over Kurdish dominated territory.

so you would consider it perfectly normal for another country to be bombing the country you're occupying, while you're still occupying it?

ask the idiot in the mirror how he's doing.

Thankyou for proving your idiocy.

The infamous Mission Accomplished banner was in relation to the carriers completion of its tour of duty, not the accomplishment of missions in Iraq.

god I can't believe people are still harping over this, but at least its a good indicator of who the fucking mouthbreathing morons are.
