In praise of George W. Bush

http://jamesfallows.theatlantic.com/...rge_w_bush.php

I have to say all this sounds totally true. In retrospect, I rather like Bush. Bush was always stupid and naive but a lot of the bad shit that went down was directly influenced by shitty advisers like Cheney. I also totally agree with the part where Bush "has behaved in a way that brings honor to him, his family, his office, and his country." and the part where "The former vice president, Dick Cheney, has brought dishonor to himself, his office, and his country." by putting "narrow score-settling interest far, far above national interest."

I would bet that Bush isn't keeping quiet for dignity or honor or to give the new team a chance...it's because he knows no one will listen to him. No one gives a fuck what he has to say and all he'll do is give Jon Stewart more material.

I would agree with the OP, while definitely not the brightest bulb, I dont think he ever had ill intentions. He tried hard to do what he thought was right, even when hated for it.

So the guy basically uh, STFU for a year like pretty much every president before him and this uh .....makes him likable and honourable in retrospect?

What specifically was honorable about his presidency? That article was really vague, this thread is really vague. Honorable how?

And if you can justify this praise, can you then tell me why he picked such a shithead of a vice president

Praise for avoiding the spotlight the first year of retirement? Most ex-presidents lay low for a couple years until they are pressured by their affiliated party to throw their weight around.

You can't separate Bush from Cheney. Bush selected him and made the decision to give him more power than VPs usually got. Selecting (and listening to) bad advisors doesn't absolve you at all.

Certainly I think Bush's motives were more pure than most liberals like to think, but I don't see how "blame Cheney" changes Bush's legacy.

Well, yeah. It doesn't really matter what his motives were, his actions speak loudly enough.

And why are we asking Dick Cheney what he thinks? He probably expected to be blamed for "leaving Obama no choice"... I'm not bothering to watch the interview to find out.

I'm supposed to praise George Bush for conceding he sucked by virtue of the fact no one's bothered to ask him about Iran's nookyalur program?
