Yay Echochamber! Go go go!

if it was bush and the repubs you's be screaming like a howler monkey on meth about the "back room deals" being made out of the public's eye.

But since it's Obama and his dems it's OK!

exactly. The 6 months before was all parry and thrust tap dancing, now that they are down to the "nitty gritty", they slide out of the public and into the back rooms to make their deals. Like Reid did with that Nebraska shyster.

I'm not sure I would call it a flat out lie...but whenever politicians make decisions behind closed doors it makes you wonder what they're trying pass before anyone notices.

Even if they aired the committee meetings, they would just talk about BS in front of the cameras and make the real deals outside the public view. Also, as far as I know, it's up to congress to make this decision, not the president. The president can't force members of Congress to put cameras anywhere.

But he also said that he would put bills up on a web site for 5 days for the public to look at before signing them.

That he certainly does have control over.

Hush. It's impolite to expose unpleasant truths about the Democratic president, that makes you racist. Save it for anybody GOP.

Umm, actually I don't think I complained once about the bush administrations back room deals not being shown on CSPAN in all eight years of their not allowing cameras into congress meetings. I seem to remember with Bush we weren't even supposed to know who was at the meetings (executive privilege) let alone think we were ever going to see them live on TV.

Also, it was more of an empty promise than a lie considering that the president doesn't have the power to tell congress or CSPAN what to do.

The months of tap dancing to produce bills that passed the house and senate was the debate about what will likely be in the bill. Now they need the final version of the one bill that will likely contain elements that have already been publicly debated in the passed bills. They aren't going to throw out everything they've been doing and write a completely different bill in secret.

WRONG, they already tried to slip in that 700 page 11th hour amendment.

Hell, even the liberal SF Chronicle agrees

Remember the promise - bring in the cameras

Quote:
Barack Obama the candidate repeatedly pledged to open the negotiations of health care reform to public examination. Members of our editorial board heard the promise with our own ears. "These negotiations would be on C-SPAN ... so the public would be part of the conversation and would see the choices being made ... that builds in accountability in the system."

At the time, the idea of gavel-to-gavel coverage seemed a bit gimmicky and fanciful. Would Americans really tune in to follow the arcane and tedious negotiations?

But a promise is a promise, and President Obama should consider candidate Obama's rationale for instilling accountability in a process that has been infected by backroom deals and shadowed by misinformation and conspiracy theories in the blogosphere. The concerns that threaten to sink this bold endeavor are only going to grow if the House-Senate conference committee operates in secret.

Bring in the cameras.

Oh I agree it should be televised. I just don't think it is as big a deal as people are trying to make it out to be.

Which everyone knew was a single payer plan that was never going to pass but it was brought forth to spark some single payer debate which never happened and the amendment was withdrawn.

The amendment was only withdrawn because the protest to have it read aloud would keep the overall bill from being voted on before people could find out what a bad bill it is and pressure their reps enough to lose the 60 votes it needed.

We put a bill in your bill so you could vote against the bad bill without voting against the bad bill.

That is the dumbest fucking excuse. An empty promise isn't the same as a lie?
