no government, or government supported organization will ever nuke us... outside of China and Russia, the MAD doctrine doesn't even apply anymore... rather than mutually assured destruction, it's more like "you nuke Manhattan, and we'll turn your entire country into a smooth glass surface, and keep on living our spoiled western lives"

the only nukes we have to fear are those in the hands of individuals or organizations that can't be nuked back...

haha, any physics or chemistry student could build a bomb... the problem is getting enough enriched uranium/plutonium, whatever to do so... these centrifuges work at a molecular level, so you get micrograms of enriched fuel with every run... and you need approx 4Kg or so of plutonium (as an example) to build a basic, modern device... if you don't have modern technology (i.e. you need to build something like the Hiroshima bomb) - you need a lot more (60Kg or so?)... the process takes years... the US had to build essentially a town in the desert, full of centrifuges to pull this off in WWII...

and of course technology is still at WWII levels.

It's also not all that easy to machine uranium precisely enough to make a bomb.

lolwut?

Machine uranium?

Sir, that makes no sense.

You need a mass of HEU, the process is child's play... just ask Freddie Nuclear Winter.
There are a number of books on the subject.

Plutonium bombs, now those are complicated.

Uranium is ubiquitous in the Earth's crust.
You need to enrich it; that's the hard part, and that's what Iran is doing.

Such as the splinter groups funded and supplied by Iran?

Keep in mind that Ahmedinijad and the other religious leaders have already said they will destroy the great satan even if that means the death of all Iranians.

The spherical type bombs are far more efficient, and that's where the machining difficulty comes in. If you want to make the Little Boy style "bullet into a tube" bomb, yeah, that's not so hard.

From what I hear, machining difficulties are what probably led to the overall failure of the North Korean test.

We agree, but spherical and symmetrically detonated charges are not required for a functional (and effective) nuclear weapon.
