Corporate personhood on a whole new level

Murray Hill Incorporated is running for congress. Thank you very much supreme court. If you thought your elected individual humans had no accountability, wait until Monsanto is in office

http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/20...-for-congress/

Quote:
Following the Supreme Court decision implicitly granting corporations the right to free speech (by determining that political spending is a kind of speech), a corporation has decided to take what it believes to be “democracy’s next step”: It is running for Congress.

With more than a twinge of irony, Murray Hill Incorporated, a liberal public relations firm, recently announced that it planned to run in the Republican primary in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District.
does anyone else see a problem with this?

Maybe they should also grant them the right to be arrested and prosecuted like persons as well.

For example, all those times bank of america has foreclosed on houses they didnt even own and destroyed the owners belongings, they should go to jail for breaking and entering, destruction of property, grant theft, and criminal harassment.

its not that easy.

corps like to say that they are "accountable to the marketplace" and that "consumers can vote with their dollars" but i think that's complete . After all the times you heard about wal-mart abusing elderly employees, did you stop shopping there? also, do you really think that the average joe has enough spending power to persuade corporations to actually do the right thing?

I suspect that corporations will be denied this based on citizenship requirements or something else equally obvious.

This sounds like justice to me.

You give them an appearance ticket. If they don't show up you fine them multiple times their assets just like you do with fleshys.

and thats true in a world where they aren't persons, they are.

I actually do shop by integrity (not to an extreme amount but still), and an example of that will be when I buy a new comp, i'll buy AMD parts instead of intel, because of intel's dirty tactics trying to squeeze AMD out of the market. (cases like this and underdog shopping (competition is important!) and what I'd like to call retarded commercials constitute about all of my "integrity shopping" )

Every shopper has this option, that 99.9% don't excercise it is only their own fault, and only hurts consumers as a group.

What I could envision (though that could be pretty fucked as well) would be something like unions for consumers. Basically groups of consumers who shop "by integrity" if you can call it that.

That ofc opens up another can of worms, but its been proven effective several times already, but it has also illustrated the problems with such as well.

haha, that's good.

And besides, if a company has done something really wrong, you persecute legally those who actively engaged in it, and those who let it happen. (ie the tools and the brass)

what

no

that's the point of a corporation. to shift liability from the individuals to an intangible entity. that's why a lot of corporations get away with a lot of shit because the law is designed so that in most cases you can't legally persecute those who actively engage in shenanigans
