Africa takes a huge chunk of foreign aid, but there are hundreds of countries large and small that depend on foreign aid to continue their existence..

You do realize that a lot of foreign aid is not without strings attached, right? A good amount of that aid is actually just a loan.

Yeah, and then you get celebrities like Sting or Bono trying to pressure western nations into forgiving the "loans" and stop attaching strings to aid. Most of these so-called "loans" can never paid back, and because of that it continues the cycle. As soon as a country/leader declares that they no longer need foreign aid they know the creditors will come calling.

Personally, I think what a person does with their money is their own business...if billionaires want to spend it on hookers and blow then epic hookers and blow it is, and I can't do a damn thing about it but be envious. However, in this case they are trying to do something good...but is $600+ billion to charities really going improve the quality of life worldwide? How about investing in future technology, alternative energy sources, new business models etc...you know, things that create jobs and helps people have a sustainable quality of life increase? I'm not against charitable contributions and have done some myself...but I think we're kidding ourselves thinking every penny goes where it should and really makes a difference in someones life. What do you guys think?

Morons. This money would have been better spend paying off the debt for each of the 50 states and you would still have money left over. Tax sheltering is what this is.

Lets create a one time bloated charity gift, have the organizations swarm their ranks and then spend the next 20 years having them try to convince people that they need money because their organization is in desperate need because they overstaffed.
