The only reason anyone would bother to look into his character at all is if they already have some emotional investment in the situation. Take that as you want. Either way, you can be pissed off about it all you want, doesn't mean there's the slightest reason to deny them the right to build.

I don't think it's a vote up to the general citizenry, the zoning and development boards along with city council and the mayor already approved his building so it's really a non-issue and they never asked what New Yorkers wanted aside from in opinion polls.
It's hard not to get invested when every day there's a new article about it in all the papers in NYC.
