OH NOEZ!! Mitt Romney Is Paying His Taxes! Burn Him At The Stakes!!!

Oh No! We have a code 0 disaster! The Republican Candidate known as Mitt Romney has been legally paying his taxes forever! But... he makes millions and owns multiple properties! This is an OUTRAGE! He should be thrown up and crucified!

Seriously - What in the living fuck is wrong with all liberals who find this offensive and independents or conservatives even that find this... offensive? The man fucking pays his taxes, but he makes a good sum from his investments. Furthermore, he obviously knows the tax system to take advantage of possible applicable laws and discounts. I find it appalling if anyone changed their vote or stance on Romney after that shit. I don't care about him going down in the polls - he was too liberal of a candidate for me anyways. But what the fuck is wrong with the people that did?

because he's a two faced scam artist?

you get someone that tells blue collar working men and women "i've been there, i've been where you are" and it turns out that he hasn't actually worked in years due to his investments?

yeah, that's a real honest candidate

You're missing the point. His tax rate was only 14% -- that's less than what my parents pay, yet he makes at least 200x more than they do. Why do they carry a heavier burden than a guy who was given everything in life?

He was smart enough to read the market and look to the future. Something that retards signing 2 yr phone bills, 10 year car loans, minimum payments on credit cards, and other shit people wouldn't be able to understand.

Point of his statement was - yes, at his younger ages, he worked blue collar jobs as well. If that's not a fact than that's a different story (I'm too lazy to look it up).

My point being - your reasoning is just invalid as stupid people changing their vote over this.

Point being, he did nothing wrong or illegal

you really don't have any argument other than "people are stupid, they all get 2 year phone bills, 10 year car loans, and make minimum payments"

what phone plan do you have? what car do you drive?

except it wasn't an investment of his own capital, he invested other people's money and took a cut of the returns. people are partly annoyed about the fact that he's taking advantage of this loophole which allows what should be considered labor income to be considered capital gains

but also because it speaks to the problem of the entire system, that those methods exist which allow him to do this in the first place. the controversy is what's legal

do you have an argument for why investments should be taxed at a lower rate than income? because if he'd paid twice what he did he wouldn't have created any fewer jobs. in fact, it might have prevented him from acquiring and closing down one of those companies and saved some jobs.

Capital gains loophole is the biggest crock of shit ever. The argument was that since you're at risk of losing some or all of your investment, the tax rate should mitigate some of those losses to "encourage" investment. There's no proof that this is true. Just like the trickle down economics the previous administration fucked us over with in order to cut taxes for millionaires who couldn't make the capital gains loophole work for them.

well the argument for lowering the capital gains tax exists but that's not what this is about. romney makes his money by investing other people's money, not by risking his own. the argument there is that his income should be considered labor, not investment, since he's not at risk of losing that investment.

bingo bango

It's like Ariana Huffington who published a book about greed in America called "Pigs at the Trough" and then didn't pay a cent of taxes on her $2,000,000 profit They all talk the talk but do sneaky shit when nobody is looking.

I have a hard time believing that someone who became that wealthy through "investments" is squeaky clean.

Quote:
Romney and his wife, Ann, had an effective federal income tax rate in 2010 of 13.9 percent, paying about $3 million in taxes on an adjusted gross income of $21.6 million

...

The returns show that Romney, whose family fortune is estimated to be as much as a quarter of a billion dollars, is among the wealthiest Americans: The family's income would put them in the top one-10th of 1 percent of all taxpayers in 2010.
Go figure out your effective tax rate and then compare it to Romney's.

I bet you are paying a lot more than 13.9% and taking home a lot less than 21.6 mil.

Are you still totally fine with that or do you think maybe a guy who's worth almost a quarter billion dollars and who rakes in 20 more million a year should maybe pay a little more, percentage wise, than someone earning $25k per year.

lol, no he didn't.

Do you understand how he made his money? In the 80s, he was the bad guy from the movie wall street. His company practiced leveraged buyouts where they would take over a public company, make the company buy back all it's own stock with loans, then they would fire everyone, sell all the property and assets, drain the pensions, extract all the wealth they could from the dying carcass of a company and then walk away with millions in fees for the great job they did, eventually leaving the company with nothing left but debt.

And these weren't all companies that were dying to begin with, they were just ripe pickings for these guys to ransack. They destroyed entire american communities just to make another million dollars when they were already rich as fuck.
