yes, those are certainly people who have abused the system and deserve jack shit. can't punish the kids though, I wish our foster system was better

but even that abuse is nothing compared to the amount of waste we see every day in the military. worry about the thing that costs us 1.4 trillion a year then we can solve the one that costs us tens of billions

Unfortunately it still seems to be political suicide to even suggest cutting the military budget.

hell I'm not even referring to what's legitimately spent, I'm just talking about the waste and abuse that stems from the typical government habit of units/departments/organizations that they're not allowed to save money. if you don't blow through your budget by the end of the FY then your budget next year will be lower even if you know you need more funds for upcoming projects/plans/exercises.

in addition to units buying stockpiles of leathermans, surefires, and other equipment that gets either put away or simply taken home, the most egregious example I know of personally is when a particular system was going to be purchased for about 53 million less than originally budgeted. great! that means we just saved the government a ton of money, right?

LOL NO you have to spend that money or find yourself sitting in front of a congressional committee to explain your errors. what the flying fuck

sauce: dude I know at hqmc that was responsible for making sure the extra money was wasted properly

^ This does not only happen in the government. I deal with this everyday and it is considered standard operating procedure.

Despite all the though, its meager compared to the shit that went on with Greece. So that should provide some solace, we arent doing that bad.

For those who havent read it, this is a great article.

Oh, I thought you meant you were leaving. Maybe you should consider investing in yourself instead.

That's Patriot Eagle's point. Welfare fraud is negligible, yet whenever a there's discussion about welfare it's inevitably brought up. Why is that? What purpose does it serve?

I understand the business with having to spend all your money before next year, that shit happens in other government agencies, academics, even big companies. But nobody has the same scale of budget that the military has, so they can be off by literally billions of dollars. If my agency (well, my group really) has money left over near the end of a year, we spend it on shit we actually need in the lab because we don't have $$$$$ out the ass.

Also, politically I understand why Congress gets pissed when the military doesn't spend out its budget "correctly." It's the biggest pork source out there, those fuckers want more F22 (or whatever) built in their districts and the whole question of "Does the military want this and will it actually make the country safer" is a distant secondary concern.

That is a fucking bonkers article. I knew Greece was a mess but just seeing the whole culture of rampant corrupt laid out like that is crazy.

Oddly enough Greece has one of the highest "hours worked" rate of any country. I suspect that they're cheating on that too, like they're "working" but really just dicking around doing nothing but happen to be "at work." Not surprisingly, their per hour productivity is awful.

Wow, 50 bps of growth, I am so shocked! Do you have any fucking idea of how utterly fucked Europe is? The sovereign debt issue is only part of the problem, Target2 payments are another massive part, and finally, Germany's export economy (target2?) is the 3rd part.

You can't be a net exporter forever, a lesson China is going to learn very quickly and one that Japan is taking 2+ decades to learn.
