i woudl rephrase this to say the size of a tip is.

15% = bare minimum, no matter how shitty service, up from there if it was better

Not for me. If somebody gave me really shitty service, I won't tip them. I'll make exceptions if it's something outside of their control, but if it was willful negligence, they get what they worked for.

tipping for shitty service? Thats fucking stupid, and encourages a continuation of shitty service.

I've never tipped in any kind of bus, and I never use one of those skycap dudes to carry my luggage. The only tips I give are sit down restaurants, bars and the chick that cuts my hair once a month.

edit- and delivery dudes, unless they're waaay late and have a bad tude.

Pizza, chinese etc..

I rarely see UPS, Fedex etc.....and I know they are making good money and not using their own vehicles to make deliveries.

you probably didn't whine about the overseas tipping part because your mom tipped on your behalf

No other country is like that. It's spreading to more and more jobs as well.

People in the service industry "expect" tips because they get paid dogshit. Waiters get paid under minimum wage in most states and are expected to make that up in tips.

It's just a way for employers to offload cost for wages onto consumers without raising prices. It has the wonderful side effect of making customers dislike their servers, instead of focusing their ire on the employers who are setting up the whole situation.

Read through my posts, I have no problem with waiters - especially since they can legally be paid under minimum wage. That - and their whole job is to do what the fuck I say while I sit on my fat ass. They totally deserve a tip. My problem is with the ever expanding American-You-Should-Tip-For-Everything!111 philosophy.

Interesting factoid: a lot of places have standardized receipt printers. They print out a Tip_____ line regardless of whether the establishment intends for you to tip or not.

Who do you tip at the airport?

I tip shuttle drivers. The last guy I tipped at the burbank airport nearly broke into tears.

Dude was a nice guy and I was the only one on the bus so I tossed him a 20.
