seriously.

It's very easy to rally yourself behind something like this when you really only understand about 1% of the research itself. Enjoy yourselves, though

The obvious example right now? Teachers in Chicago.

Surprised by who is out there protesting, much?

The teachers in Chicago are currently on protest for their wages. Mind you, teaching in a public school is nothing. It's not challenging. It's not hard to start. It's not hard to maintain. The amount of "teachers" is off the charts.
-I sure wish I could have recess, lunch, and get off at 3:00.
-It takes little to no skill - and a bachelors degree in what you already learned is nothing of that sort
-You can fuck your students in your free time!
-It would be great to have a "Spring Break" at a moments notice, plus getting the summer off! Heeeey! Fun Shtuff!

Yet, apparently - an average of $76k for a year - which is WAY over the national average, mind you - is not enough. Better yet - offering the teachers in this union 14% more over the next 4 years isn't even good enough. No - no - no, putting up with kids in an air conditioned class room is MUCH more harsh work, you need a union in order to "protect" such hard working... the labor of working until 3 and grading homework oh no! Let's not forget all the "Holidays" that students get as well.

Nothing makes me laugh more than the day that there really is a FAR superior amount of excess non-skilled labor that a huge ass group would gladly take the place of the current union members that are too busy bitching up a storm. The amount of retards (especially women) that graduate with the idea of teaching is laughable. It's not much of a skill - let alone much training - yet it's something that apparently needs a union

What was once made for the protection of human lives is now a center for human disgrace. People like this should be slaughtered like cattle for their stupidity that is obviously being passed on to this generation of failure.

Have you actually tried teaching some of these shitheads? It's more difficult that it looks. Just trust me on that one. Also, to say a teacher means nothing... yeah, the person who facilitated your learning that got you where you are today means jack shit. Smooth move, dumb ass. The reason teachers have a union is because shitheads like you fail to recognize just how important they are, and therefore need the protection to continue attempting to generate a better tomorrow by teaching today.

Average salary? How was that computed? Was the Superintendent added to this? How about the principals? Those would bring the number up significantly and completely misrepresent the salary of the rank and file. I know it's against your religion (Republicanism), but commit the sin of blasphemy every now and again. Burn off some of that brain cell you have remaining and try to figure some of this shit out for yourself on your own initiative.

You are without a doubt THE biggest fucking moron on this whole forum.

I... didn't... say... they didn't? Are you handicapped or something

The point is that you are always looking for what is next in life. The whole "I will sit here in the same company in the chair and be happy with my 2% raises" is over in this world. You will not get anywhere, especially if the inflation on the dollar keeps going hand-in-hand with your raises

You are so out of touch with the world it's actually cute in a way.

/facepalm.jpg

If education takes more than having the teacher, book, pencil, and paper - you're a part of the problem. You're always on here bitching up a storm about how our government doesn't do enough - must go hand in hand with how far you got in life. Shut the fuck up and bag my groceries

barely middle class? Jesus fuck you need to be slapped with a brick if you think $76k if "barely middle class". Take a look at our nation's average household pay dimwit Combine that with pensions and benefits out the asshole, mind you. Once again, anyone who says $76k isn't a lot for earning a shit bachelors degree doesn't understand where we are at in this country.

My guess is the most you have gotten in life is working retail Don't you have some more OWS events to attend where you camp out while sitting in a circle jerk bitching about how everything "isn't enough!" just because some people have it better than you? Jealousy is hilarious in this nation.

Teachers want to teach, you just need to pay them enough to not go looking for something else. People who aren't intrinsically motivated to teach aren't going to want to stay in the profession unless you pay them more than they'd make in the private sector and those aren't people who are going to make the best teachers long term anyway. Raising wages past a certain point really isn't going to have that big an effect outside of limited situations.

People in life always want what they don't have. The instant you give them that raise of 14% - it will be forgotten the year after. Why do you think shit like NFL/NBA player contracts hit new highs every year? Everyone has to beat out everyone else or they will bitch up a storm until they do

Teachers have to attend professional development, either classes that go towards a specific higher education track (i.e. towards their masters, and if desired towards their PhD), or classes that enrich the track they're already in or expand it (e.g. if they are a general education teacher they take courses to help them better understand and work with special ed students or ESL students or what have you). Many teachers start out teaching one grade level and change, and you don't just do that on a whim, you need more training. Furthermore, they're receiving on-the-job training all the time. Meaning if they try a lesson and it bombs, they know they have to either fix what didn't work or scrap it all together and come up with a whole new lesson for next time. They're consistently working with other teachers, either in their own content area or even outside of that, to get new and fresh ideas for inspiring their classes. You have literally no idea what goes into teaching. Did you decide what teachers are and what they do based on your perspective of them when you were in school? Because you really don't have the appropriate frame of reference if that's where you came up with this shit. Of course it doesn't seem like they do a lot when you're in school- you're not there with them when they spend their entire lunch in a planning meeting. I'm doubtful you were there when they were staying late to help kids after school. You certainly weren't there when they had to teach your ungrateful asses all day and then sit through graduate level classes at night. I'm pretty sure you weren't present when they had to grade pages upon pages of homework, knowing that on top of all of that you had a paper of your own to write.

It comes down to this: you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, but you seem to think you're right. You've done no research of your own, past listening to other people who have no idea what they're talking about, and every time somebody says or shares something that goes against what you've decided, you stick your fingers in your ears. Maybe you SHOULD go back to school and learn some critical thinking, and while you're there pay better attention to the shit teachers have to do and deal with.

$70k isn't THAT high of a Salary. The places I am positioned to hit in my career easily hit the $150-$250k - So you have old ass teachers that sit there teaching the same crap to the same level - $76k is not jack shit if your final destination in life is sitting in a public school teaching little shitheads

It's funny though, it's like I have fans about my life. Maybe I should start blogging?

Wall of useless text from an insecure female that when something happens such as an emotional breakdown over a relationship simply responds to everyone "YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IVE BEEN THROUGH!!11" No... We do.... You're not special. Go ahead and think you are if it makes you feel better, sugar tits.

Teaching isn't any different than any other job. I never said it was easier than your other typical job, but it certainly isn't any harder But go ahead and try to say it is - it's cute - All those "hard hours" grading papers while in bed watching Gilmore Girls I'm sure will do wonders when comparing to people who work construction outside in 100+ degree weather for 10-14 hour days and have 0 benefits or overtime is going to just shower us with admiration.

And please, provide some backup when you say teachers are required to attend "professional development" - You say that like they are required to continue their college education - Why else do you see the same teachers teaching in the same grade levels for 25+ years? I can attend night school to further develop, but you're full of shit if you're saying teachers have to
