No, and no.

The problem here is the tax code. You people jumping on Romney for only paying 15% or whatever he paid last year, when his books are all above the table; he did it legally. Also, hes not actually working anymore, and most of his money comes from the market and what not and taxes are far different there with that kind of stuff.

The theres us, jumping all over the 47% of americans not paying any taxes. Yes, some of them are legitimately not paying taxes, like the elderly on retirement and so forth, and I dont think all of them need to pay. Dems harp on the fact that everyone needs to pay their "fair share", well guess what, the top, what is it, 10% or something pay over 50% of the taxes in this country.

BUT, I think concessions need to be made on both sides. The tax code needs to be restructured, not only to close some of the loop holes, but also to simplify it a bunch, clean out a lot of overhead. Then, on the other side, some of these people who aren't paying taxes need to pay SOMETHING. I'm not saying they should be paying 30% or anything, but something needs to be done there. We're astronomically in debt and something needs to be done.

But some of these people who are asking these rich people to fork over all their money for taxes is ridiculous. Who are you, or the government, to say how much money you can make? Thats ridiculous. And this is coming from someone who is in "snowball's chance in hell" territory of ever being rich.

Shut the fuck up with your logical thinking - that has no place in a thread of liberals.

pay them less, yes.

pay them less than they need to survive and then turn around and blame them for being lazy bums who are leeching off of society because they get food stamps to feed their kids? No. that is fucking stupid.

Pay them less than they need to survive, blame them for their lack of pay, force them to take government assistance, profit from this arrangement and then complain about the need to pay taxes to pay for all the leeches... and you have the people running the republican party now.

The top whatever % pay so much because they take home ALL THE FUCKING MONEY. http://www2.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html

The top 1% owns 34% of all net wealth. The next 4% owns 27% of all wealth. That means the top 5% owns 62% of everything. The top 20% owns 85% of everything. Why are you bitching at the 80% who own 15% of everything?

You people who think that asking the rich to pay more is unheard of are ridiculous. The top tax rate from 1940-1980 was 70% or over. That's how we paid for WW2, Korea and Vietnam. Now suddenly asking the rich to pay for Iraq and Afghanistan is communism? You people have been brainwashed by stupid.

The government is not saying how much you can make. They are saying if you make over a certain amount you pay this percentage on that, just like they say for every tax payer.

And if you are rich, why the fuck shouldn't you pay back into the system which enabled you to be rich in the first place?

Mitt Romney makes 21 million dollars a year for breathing and being alive. He doesn't have to do anything but exist to make that. Because that is taxed as capital gains and not earned income, he only pays 3 million in taxes on that for a take of 19 mil.

If that income were taxed at the same rate as your income is, he would have to pay 4.5 million more per year. He would only take home 13.5 million which would wouldn't make him poor or dissuade him from working. All that would mean is that the rate at which he would get even richer without working would just be slightly slower.

Why should the money romney collects for being rich and sitting on his ass be taxed at a lower rate than the money everyone else makes by working for a living?

This is a silly argument. The top 10% control more than 70% of the wealth in this country. If they are in command of that much of the GDP, it stands to reason they should be paying the most taxes. It would be senseless to say that a majority of the population controlling a minority of the wealth should be taxed more.

Replace the mosquito with a rich guy in a mobile blood drawing center subsidized by the gov't that draws your blood and promises he'll grow it into more blood for everybody - now you got yourself an analogy.

He doesn't really have a point with the trickle up joke. One could argue that the greatest period in the growing of American prosperity and influence came as a result of the New Deal that developed a safety net and helped even the playing field and regulate industry. So there's evidence of that helping the economy. There's also evidence of the slowest growth in GDP since the Great Depression under George Bush with the tax cuts for the rich. Obama's GDP growth is even worse, but again lowest taxes on top earners in recent history.

It's very disappointing and I wish a single person can be blamed for this, but unfortunately there's a hundreds of partisan knuckleheads that have to agree in order to get anything accomplished. As bad a president Obama is, I think Mitt could be much much worse. Him being a successful businessman is the only thing he's got going for him at this point. But does he realize that you cannot run a country like a company though? You cannot shut down and move operations where it's cheaper. You cannot get rid of people like downsizing workers. You have to take care of 311,591,917 persons not just a few shareholders. You have to work with Congress and other people, you're not a CEO that can make all the decisions. The bottom line is not a number, it's the well being of a nation.
